Itinerary details:
Day 1 Basel to Interlaken
Take the direct train from Basel to Interlaken passing through the pretty city of Bern, and once you have arrived head over to your hotel for a 2-night stay. In the afternoon why not take a scenic cruise on Lake Brienz or Lake Thun? Both are dotted with castles and regular stops allow passengers to hop on and off, making great use of their included Swiss Pass. (Overnight Interlaken)
Day 2 Jungfrau Day Trip
Following breakfast, make your way to the station for an amazing adventure. Take the train to the picturesque village of Lauterbrunnen and have your camera ready! Feel free to explore the village or hop on the very next train to Kleine Scheidegg, then the spectacular Jungfraubahn to the Jungfraujoch station, almost 3000m above sea level. Enjoy views of France, Germany, Italy and the Swiss Alps as well as the Aletsch Glacier before returning down the mountain by the way of thrilling cable-car past the north face of the Eiger and the pretty village of Grindelwald. Day 3 Interlaken to Lucerne
Board the train at Interlaken Ost station, then enjoy the wonderful views on the 2hr ride to Lucerne. The line skirts around Lake Brienz before heading through Meiringen then up into the mountains. These trains often run with panoramic windows, so you enjoy all the glorious scenery as the pass numerous alpine lakes before arriving in Lucerne, your home for 2-nights. (Overnight Lucerne) B
Day 4 Mount Pilatus Day Trip
Between May-Oct enjoy a cruise on lake Lucerne before taking the steepest rack railway in the world to the top of Mount Pilatus. Enjoy some spectacular views, easy walking trails and lunch perhaps before returning down the other side of the mountain via gondola and cable-car, which is the route up as well during the winter. In the evening take a stroll over the wooden Chapel Bridge and enjoy some dinner in Lucernes' idyllic old town. (Overnight Lucerne) B
